STRUCTURAL STEEL & WELDING
AWS Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) and ICC structural steel deputy inspectors delivering rapid-response field verification to ensure strict building code compliance and flawless municipal sign-offs.
Est. Parameter
$400 - $2,200
Our certified deputy inspectors provide comprehensive structural steel and welding inspection services across Southern California. All quality assurance protocols are executed in strict accordance with the International Building Code (IBC Chapter 17), American Welding Society (AWS D1.1/D1.3/D1.4), and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) specifications.
Comprehensive Structural Steel Inspection Protocols:
-
Welder and Procedure Qualification: Verification of Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQR) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) prior to any field or shop fabrication.
-
Structural Welding Inspection: Visual inspection of weld joint geometry, fit-up, root pass, interpass temperatures, and final weld profiles (fillet and groove welds).
-
High-Strength Bolting Verification: Inspection of structural bolt assemblies, storage conditions, and tightening methods including turn-of-nut, calibrated wrench, and twist-off tension control bolts.
-
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Coordination of specialized testing including Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect sub-surface weld discontinuities.
Service Parameters & FAQs
What is the difference between continuous and periodic inspection for structural steel welding?
Continuous inspection requires the deputy inspector to be physically present observing the welding operations throughout the entire process. Periodic inspection allows the inspector to review the fit-up, interpass steps, and completed welds at intervals, depending on the risk tier and specific structural engineer notes on your approved construction documents.
How do you verify that high-strength structural bolts are properly tensioned?
Our inspectors verify bolting compliance by checking the manufacturer certificates, ensuring proper washer placement, and observing the installation method. For tension-control (TC) bolts, we verify the splines snap off cleanly; for standard structural bolts, we utilize a pre-calibrated torque wrench or match-marking for the turn-of-nut method.
Can your inspectors conduct shop fabrication inspections as well as field inspections?
Yes. Our AWS and ICC certified inspectors regularly deploy to approved fabrication shops to verify welding procedures and structural steel configurations before the assemblies are shipped to your Southern California jobsite, reducing the risk of costly field corrections.
